Sport-Turf Management Apprentice - Kent College - Horticulture

Opportunity description

The Senior School occupies a semi-rural site of some 70 acres (280,000 m 2 ) on the edge of the city of  Canterbury and also owns the nearby Moat Estate, where there is  a farm, which is managed by staff and pupils, and extensive sports pitches. These are adjacent to Blean Forest, which is the largest area of ancient woodland in Kent, and is recognised on a British and international level for its importance as a wildlife conservation area.

The Senior School has 3 rugby pitches, 2 cricket pitches, an all-weather hockey pitch and a wide range of athletics and other sports pitches.

Working 30 hours per week Monday - Friday with occasional weekend, by the end of the course you will have a qualified in Level 2 Sport-Turf Management - qualification with YMCA Training.

Key duties:

● General grounds and gardens maintenance, including strimming, grass-cutting, hedge-cutting, mowing, turfing, planting
● Cricket pitch maintenance and marking out pitches to a high standard
● Able to use machinery and drive tractors (once eligible/qualified)
