Health and Social Care Apprenticeships

This Apprenticeship is ideal if you want to train for a career, or are already working, in the health and care sector. You'll receive an excellent grounding to develop a successful career, and those who already have experience go on to further develop their existing skills and receive an approved qualification confirming their competencies and abilities.

Apprenticeship qualifications
Intermediate Apprenticeship Level 2 (12 months)

  • Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Level 2 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Employment Responsibilities and Rights
  • Functional Skills Level 1 Mathematics
  • Functional Skills Level 1 English
Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 (18 months)
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care
  • Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Employment Responsibilities and Rights
  • Functional Skills Level 2 Mathematics
  • Functional Skills Level 2 English

Entry requirements
You must be employed for a minimum of 30 hours a week in a health or care role and YMCA Training may be able to help you find an employer you can complete your Apprenticeship with. You cannot have a qualification at Level 4 or above to apply for this course, you need to be living in England and can not be taking part in full-time education.

Learning methods
Your qualifications will be delivered within your workplace and sometime it may be necessary for you to attend sessions in one of our centres. You will need to do training while working as well as off-the- job training which will be discussed with you and your employer when you begin your Apprenticeship.

Assessment methods
Qualification assessments are carried out using a variety of methods such as observing you in your workplace, taped interviews, personal statements and witness testimonies. You will also need to build a portfolio of evidence.

Progression opportunities
Intermediate Apprentices can progress to do an Advanced Apprenticeship. Advanced Apprentices can progress to QCF diplomas at level 4 and above (e.g. Higher National Diploma in H&SC or Higher Education), including, where appropriate, opportunities to progress to foundation degrees (e.g. Foundation Degree in Health & Social Care) and higher education certificates.

Career possibilities
As a qualified care worker you could pursue your career in a variety of roles such as care workers; personal assistants; domiciliary care workers; community, support and outreach workers; supervisors, and senior care workers in adult social care.
