Graphic Design

What’s your design for life? If you’re creative and have artistic talents then you could develop a career in graphic design through the help of an Apprenticeship.

An Apprenticeship in graphic design will get you experience in the workplace and a qualification. Once you’ve completed the course you could go on to get a job in the sector such as as a Junior Mac Designer or Artworker.

You’ll need to be creative and artistic with an eye for design. You’ll also need to be enthusiastic about the course. If this sounds like you then read on to find out more:

During your Apprenticeship in Graphic Design,

You will gain the skills to:

  • Use industry standard design packages such as Quark Xpress, InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator
  • Produce professional page layouts
  • Manipulate images seamlessly
  • Create complex designs
  • Create basic animations

You will get:

  • Work experience in a graphic design environment
  • Hands-on intensive training in the use of AppleMac computers

You will achieve:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Graphic Design
  • Technical Certificate Level 2 in Art and Design
  • Key Skills Level 2 in IT
  • If you have not already achieved a grade C or above in your Maths and English GCSEs, you will gain Key Skills Level 2 in Communication and Application of Number

YMCA Training will:

  • Give you a full induction so you are prepared to start your Apprenticeship
  • We will get you work placements in which you can get the experience you need to work towards the Apprenticeship
  • Visit you regularly to assess your progress and observe you in the workplace
  • Provide the appropriate off the job training
  • Support and guide you throughout your course

Entry requirements:

To do a Level 2 Graphic Design Apprenticeship, you’ll ideally need to have:

  • GCSEs in Maths and English (Grade C and above)
  • GCSE Art or Graphics

Course length:

This depends on you and how much time you would like to complete the different element of the course. Although we anticipate learners will take up to 16 months to complete the course, most finish the course in less time than this. The majority of this time is spent in work placements.

Availability:

A Graphic Design Apprenticeship is only available in a limited number of centres, so please contact your local centre to see if they offer it. If not, we will register your interest and keep your details on file, as with enough demand your centre may be able to offer the course in the future.
