YMCA Training inspire - develop - transform Successes

Sam, 17, joined YMCA Training Chester in December 2010 on the Foundation Learning programme after being referred by Connexions.

Sam did not want to go to college as he wasn't keen on the sizes of the groups. He also felt his English and maths levels were too poor.

Since starting on the programme, Sam has achieved his Entry 3 functional maths and his NOCN Level 1 Award in Sport and Leisure. He is now working towards NOCN Level 1 Certificate and his functional English. He is also completing his City & Guilds Employability and Personal Development.

Sam's attendance has been 100% which has resulted in him finishing some of his qualifications early.

He has been an outstanding pupil, really showing his true potential and building his confidence and self esteem. He is eager to learn and a pleasure to teach. Sam's hard work and determination resulted in him receiving YMCA Training Chester's learner of the month award in February.

Sam would like to progress onto an Apprenticeship, with day release at college and feels that the Foundation Learning programme at YMCA Training has given him the confidence to do this.

Sam said: "I came to YMCA Training to get my qualifications quicker and to meet new people. It gives me something to do, and then I don't get bored. All the staff are really helpful and give you good advice."
