Working with schools to get results
The demand for our work with school pupils is growing all the time. Last year we worked with 678 pupils from schools across the country, to support their personal development and improve skills and knowledge through vocational training or an alternative curriculum. With a greater emphasis on vocation and employment related training for Key stage 4 pupils, and the development of specialised diplomas, YMCA Training is well placed to support your school in responding to this.
Our programmes provide an opportunity to enable pupils to fulfil their potential, including disenchanted pupils who may be at risk of exclusion, or who have been permanently excluded.
Benefits to pupils can include:
- A recognised and vocationally relevant qualification
- Increased confidence, self-respect and self-esteem
- Improved motivation
- Increased reliability and punctuality
- Evidence of achievement
- For those that are disengaged - re-engagement with mainstream education or progression to further education, training or employment
A recent independent evaluation of our schools work undertaken by Nottingham University concluded:
“…YMCA Training's provision for schools is of a very high standard and is meeting the needs of many disaffected students, improving their confidence, motivation and social skills; improving their attitudes towards education and training; and providing them with opportunities to acquire a range of vocational and non-vocational qualifications, which they value, and which can help them progress into further education and training or employment.”
