How will my school benefit from working with YMCA Training?

By working in partnership with YMCA Training you will be able to provide pupils with a vocational training route that can lead to a qualification. This benefits successful pupils who will thrive on a practical approach to learning. We can also provide an alternative curriculum to benefit disengaged pupils who to date have not fulfilled their potential in mainstream education.

What are the direct benefits to pupils?

Benefits to pupils enrolled on a YMCA Training programme can include:

  • A recognised and vocationally relevant qualification for pupils
  • Increased confidence, self-respect and self-esteem
  • Improved motivation
  • Increased reliability and punctuality
  • Evidence of achievement
  • For those that are disengaged - re-engagement with mainstream education or progression to further education, training or employment

What approach does YMCA Training take when working with school pupils?

We work with pupils in a range of different ways, depending on individual needs and interests and the needs of the school. However, all approaches are rooted in two key principles:

  1. Activities involved are varied and practical and relevant to the young people's lives
  2. All pupils are treated as adults

How could my school work with YMCA Training?

Have a look at the examples of the services we currently offer within our different centres. This may give you an idea of the type of training that would be appropriate to your school. Contact your local centre to discuss any ideas you have in mind. Training Advisers will be more that happy to talk through options with you and decide on an approach to take.

Where does the training take place?

This depends entirely on the needs of your school and your pupils and the type of programme you would like to receive. Training can either be delivered at our centres or in your classrooms.

What is the cost of the training?

A few of our centres may have access to funding from the European Social Fund to support provision. In most cases, your school will be required to fund the cost of the training. Your centre will advise on the cost for particular training depending on your exact needs.
