From mid-January to mid-February this year, learners
from YMCA Training Lowestoft took part in an eight week Youth
Outdoor Experience Project in Normanston Park, Lowestoft. The
project was funded through the Big Lottery Fund's Children's Play
Programme, led by Gemma Smith, education officer at Suffolk
Wildlife Trust.
Our Foundation Learning learners carried out improvements within
the monkey puzzle section of the park, which included creating
barked walkways, making bird boxes and clearing the undergrowth to
make way for the planting of new shrubs and trees.
During this project learners were able to gain valuable
experience, develop a variety of skills such as their
communication, confidence and teambuilding, and for some being able
to demonstrate commitment, motivation and seeing a task through to
the end.
