Staff at YMCA Training Bristol were delighted when they
heard a learner on the Foundation Learning programme had been
shortlisted for Ashton Park School Sport Partnership's Young
Volunteer of the Year Award.
Ashton Park School Sport Partnership Awards is sponsored by
Parkwood Leisure, which is involved in the Hengrove Park Leisure
development.
It is a great opportunity to highlight, not only the sporting
achievement of local pupils, within PE and school sport in South
Bristol, but also the fantastic work of teachers and
volunteers.
The Young Volunteer of the Year (post-16) Award is given in
recognition of an individual over 16yrs of age, who has excelled in
their volunteering through ability, commitment and enthusiasm.
Young learner Stevie Girling demonstrates her commitment to
Ashton Park School Sport Partnership by volunteering at the Bridge
Learning Campus where she coaches football, rounders, athletics and
circuits to pupils ranging from year six to year 11.
It was announced at the Ashton Park School Sport Partnership
awards ceremony, held at Ashton Park School in Bristol, that Stevie
was the winner and she was presented with a commemorative plaque
and certificate.
Stevie said "I am very pleased to win this award. Last year I
was runner-up, so this is an exciting achievement for me."
