YMCA Training Stowmarket young learners experience
London thanks to the West Suffolk Community Chest
A group of young learners from Stowmarket experienced a
taste of London recently thanks to funding from the West Suffolk
Community Chest.
The group of 15 learners visited the London Dungeons, The
London Eye and had lunch at TGI Fridays.
The young learners planned the trip, budgeted for the
trip and wrote thank you letters afterwards. They used lots of
skills such as ICT, maths, English and life skills.
The trip also helped them gain experience and confidence
in travelling on buses, trains and the underground which they are
definitely not used to in their very rural part of
Suffolk.
The West Suffolk Community Chest was launched
in 2008 by the West Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership
(LSP) to help get local community projects off the
ground.
Each year a range of projects benefits from over £20,000 of grant
aid. Bids have to be for £1,500 or less and must match the
aims of the West Suffolk LSP. These projects can help
everyone - young, old, able-bodied or with disabilities.
