Sarah Outing, training adviser at YMCA Training
Dover tells us about her recent charity
skydive……
On Sunday June 5th 2011, I took part in a 'tandem
skydive' at RAF Weston on the Green near Oxford. I
jumped 10,000 ft strapped to a highly qualified instructor. We
freefalled for about 40 seconds at 120 mph before our parachute
opened at 5,000 ft and we glided towards the ground. My instructor
Phil was brave enough to let me steer the parachute once it opened.
It was an absolutely fantastic experience and I'd definitely do it
again.
I'd like to thank all my colleagues at YMCA Training for
sponsoring me. So far I've raised over £900 for Helen & Douglas
House in Oxford. This is a registered charity providing respite and
end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening
conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family.
The two hospice houses are bright, vibrant and positive places,
where the emphasis is on living life to the full, even when that
life may be short.
This charity is very close to my heart as my step-daughter
Rebecca went to Douglas House for respite in May 2010 but sadly
passed away there three weeks later. Even though her time there was
very short she was looked after really well by all the
staff.
If anyone would like to sponsor me, I have a fundraising
page which is open until the end of June. Just go to
