YMCA Training Great Yarmouth is thrilled with the
success of its summer programme with 22 new learners joining them
in the activities so far!
Since starting on the programme recently, the young learners
have experienced numerous activities.
A sports and fitness session was run in partnership with Great
Yarmouth and Waveney NHS PCT, all of the learners who took part
really enjoyed the session and were literally buzzing when they
returned.
A sexual health session was run in partnership with GFS Platform
Great Yarmouth. This was delivered by a qualified sexual health
trainer and a peer educator, along with the support of staff from
YMCA Training. This was both fun and informative.
A cookery session was run by Claire Overton, co-ordinator at
YMCA Training Great Yarmouth. During this session the learners
experienced smoothie making and cooked a lasagne.
The young learners have also taken part in activities which help
them build on their teamwork and communication skills, including
The Mummy activity, and a paper tower building activity
On 26th July they had Well-Being Day, where all elements of
well-being were looked at and enjoyed, with an afternoon of crafts
to enhance the learner's well-being including, salt dough
modelling, abstract painting and also sporting games on the Wii.
All of the learners left feeling great and interested in pursuing
further well-being activities.
To date, 20 of the learners have said they will progress through
to either college, or onto YMCA Training's Foundation Learning
programme.
